Dogfish Head Creates Hoppiest Beer Ever: As part of the Dogfish Head/First We Feast video series That’s Odd, Let’s Drink It, Sam Calagione and his friends (and actors) Ken Marino and Joe Lo Truglio successfully created the hoppiest beer in measured existence. At 658 IBU, the beer is dubbed “Hoo Lawd” after the typical reaction from pioneering taste-testers. Naysayers may ask, is it necessary to produce such an obscenely bitter brew? The answer is no, of course, but nothing is really “necessary” so we might as well enjoy it.

Cry Me A Bitter: In other strange trailblazing news, the minds behind London bar and offbeat event creator Bompas & Parr announced a class this week that would instruct students in creating custom cocktail bitters using their own tears. If you can’t cry on command, they advertise a number of “tear inducements” to help you obtain your very personal raw materials for the class. We’re not totally sure who wants to drink their own tears in a cocktail, but we suspect they have some sensitive poetry to share as well.

Sit Down With Nick Offerman: Lagavulin released a 45 minute video of Nick Offerman sitting by a fireplace drinking Lagavulin 16 this week. Yes, that’s it. There’s no talking, no sales pitch, and very little movement. The snap of the fireplace makes a very pleasant background if you listen to it at work. If you watch it directly for all forty-five minutes, well, good on you for supporting something delightfully weird.

US Breweries Set New Record: As of this week, the Brewers’ Association announced that the United States is home to 4,144 breweries, the most since 1873 and its paltry class of 4,131. Celebrate by heading out to your local brewery- which almost definitely exists within an hour drive- and supporting their mission with a glass, growler, or breaking into applause. There’s never been a more interesting time to be a beer drinker in this country, and it’s on you to explore everything.

Don’t Trust Anyone: Liquor.com found a handful of questionably trusting people to attempt blind taste tests of some seriously over-the-top liquors. The reactions are fairly priceless, but our favorite had to be the woman surprised by her newfound fondness for straight white lightning moonshine. This video reminds us of our mother’s best advice: don’t let a stranger put something in your mouth.

The Times Says You Can Drink: A study reported on by the New York Times linked drinking to more successful exercise sessions and ultimately, better fitness. Before you go and twist that around, keep in mind that you have to be exercising for the drinking to have a positive effect. So far, there’s still no miracle cocktail to give you a ripped body. Still, this should be helpful in justifying your post-gym beer(s) from now on.
