SantaCon Is Coming: New York City’s most infamous holiday festival returns this Saturday, December 12, starting at 10 AM in McCarren Park. The costumed crawl will progress through Williamsburg before ending up in the East Village that night. We at the Brewery will unfortunately not be allowing the Santas and Elves into our Tasting Room for the day, but we wish all participants a safe and merry time in our neighborhood.

Baubles and Ballantine: Pabst announced that it will release a revived form of the legendary Ballantine Burton Ale as a seasonal offering this year. The traditional Ballantine Burton Ale was aged for up to 20 years in some cases, with a very small list of recipients including treasured clients, trusted distributors and U.S. Presidents. The modern incarnation is an 11.3% six pack and draft release in the northeastern United States– time to get hunting.

Bud Weisser Fulfills Prophecy: The aptly named Bud Weisser was arrested at the Budweiser plant in St. Louis after the 19 year old entered a restricted access section of the brewery. He is charged with trespassing and resisting arrest, which are fortunately mild enough crimes that this story still gets to be hilarious. Thanks for the laugh, Mr. Weisser.

Bottle Blunder Down Under: Carlton, an Australian brewery owned by SABMiller, issued a recall this week on well over a million bottles of Carlton Dry. The bottles are  “355mL bottles with expiration dates of July 19 and 20, 2016…produced in October by Carlton & United Breweries in Queensland, are also marked with a “3″ on the cartons, or a “3A” or “3B” on bottles,” that also happen to contain a fairly crunchy amount of broken glass. Keep an eye out, Australian friends. Beer shouldn’t hurt.

Alcohol Slows Aging, Miracles are Real: A study from the American Society of Human Genetics revealed that one to two drinks a day correlated with a significantly longer, healthier life. Of course, the group in the study that partied hardest tended to have a more severe aging process, which is why Keanu Reeve appears to never change while Keith Richards appears to have been patched together with asphalt and leather.

Pack Your Bags: The folks at Mental Floss have compiled a list of fifteen of the most noteworthy cities based on beer styles. Sure, you might’ve known Pilsner was developed in Pilsen, but did you know that Kellerbier was largely developed in the delightfully named Buttenheim, Germany? Start planning your trips now– we hear plane tickets are great stocking stuffers.
