Our brethren at Nya Carnegie are up to something good with their latest release. The new offering is Luma Lager, a well-hopped filtered lager featuring strong American hop aromas. Early brewhouse reports indicate that the beer is crisp and refreshing, and the brewers love the beer so much that they’re drinking it almost as quickly as they can bottle it up. Honestly, these sort of updates make us jealous, but we know our Nya Carnegie friends wouldn’t tease us on purpose…much.

Luma Lager takes its name from the Luma Lamp Factory that once occupied the building Nya Carnegie calls home. The factory was built to protest against the existing lamp manufacturers’ price cartel, to the joy of many Swedes. The workers took to testing their light bulbs on the roof of the factory, shining out over Hammarby Sjöstad and the southern part of Södermalm. Nya Carnegie was inspired by the literal beacon of hope these lights represented, and they keep it close to heart as they strive to be a beacon of beer culture in Stockholm.

The folks at Nya Carnegie will be unveiling Luma Lager with an official release party on Saturday, February 13, at 6:30 PM in their Tasting Room. For those a bit farther away, we’ll also be snagging a few kegs for our Brooklyn Tasting Room sometime in the next few weeks. We’re looking forward to being enlightened by Luma Lager, and we refuse to apologize for that lighting pun.
