Mutt Mixologists Are Next: A London pop-up bar helmed by Kronenburg 1664 will feature “highly trained” German Shepherds (the dogs, not Bavarian farmers) serving up bottles of beer via barrels hung under their necks. We can only assume that the St. Bernard Union is livid about being knocked off the top of the “dogs with barrels of booze” hierarchy. We also assume that dogs have unions.

Motorhead Unleashes Newer Booze: “Another metal band with an alcoholic product, huh, Tim?” This one is frankly a bit much, even for me. Motorhead released a new “kick ass” cider, joining the ranks of Motorhead branded lager, imperial lager, shiraz, shiraz rose, Swedish single malt whisky, and vodka. Wasn’t Lemmy a Jack and Coke guy his whole life? What is the band doing with the rest of the bar?

star wars chewie picking up han i feel terrible

Revival: Star Wars Beers: In honor of Star Wars Day on May 4th, Paste Magazine re-posted this handy roundup of Star Wars-related beers. The notably litigious Lucasfilms has attempted to block several of these beers from production, but almost all have slipped by like the Millennium Falcon on a record-breaking run. Remember to share these if you find them, or you’ll end up like Han up there.

Celebrating Founders: Speaking of Paste, they also put up a terrific profile on the good folks at Founders Brewing. Despite rocky beginnings, Founders has ridden to justifiable craft glory on beers like All Day IPA and Kentucky Breakfast Stout. Both are excellent beers, but I’d challenge most comers to beat a well-earned imperial pint of Founders Porter at the end of a rough week. Cheers, friends!

night at the museum thumbs up cowboy and centurion

Cheers to the Smithsonian: The Smithsonian announced a new research project this week that will exhaustively document the history of beer and brewing in American history. In addition to the excellent exhibit that is sure to come, we’re hoping this means the next Night At The Museum movie is an R-rated crossover with Beerfest.

Pony Up: While that little horse race goes on this weekend, mint juleps will have their annual moment in the sun before people cram their fancy silver cups in the same closet as horror movies and the Dropkick Murphys for another year. WHile you’re enjoying the historic drink, check out this article from First We Feast that pokes holes in some of the more persistent myths about Southern drinking tradition. It’s about three-quarters of a julep long, depending on your stress level.
