Woah, what happened to News You Can Booze? Well, we liked the name The Weekly Sixer better. Still all the booze news you need, just in time to wile away your Friday before happy hour starts.

Happy Birthday, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale turns 35 this week, which means that the craft world’s most unifying beer is almost old enough for a midlife crisis joke. Countless brewers and beer fans have had their lives changed by the Cascade-forward brew since its introduction back in 1981, and it’s still a reliable go-to when confronted with an unfamiliar bar or last-minute party. Cheers, and many more!

A Literal Chocolate Bar: London was treated to a very large pun this week as Carlsberg unveiled a bar made entirely of chocolate outside the Old Truman Brewery in Shoreditch. The bar was built out of half a ton of chocolate and served half-pints in, you guessed it, chocolate cups. We’re sure Charlie Bucket would have appreciated their attention to detail.

Here’s To Eddy: Iron Maiden released their latest beer this week, a 6.8% offering called Red ‘n Black Porter. Unlike a Black and Tan, this beer references the song “The Red and the Black” off of the band’s 2015 album The Book of Souls. Singer and beer enthusiast Bruce Dickinson is a man who can be trusted with good beer, as seen by his involvement in the British real ale scene and the band’s previous beers. Go grab one and rock out.

Finally, A Productive Date Idea: Bushwick bar Alphaville has launched a special advertising free shots for anyone who can prove they’re on a Tinder date at the bar on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night. The offer started as a joke from manager Kait Browne, but has apparently taken off. We certainly plan to up our lunchtime Tinder game here in the brewery offices to try and snag a shot or two.

Science Is Judging You: Using some seriously concerning algorithmic technology, scientists have been able to pinpoint tweets from people who are drinking and determine if they are drinking at home or at a bar or similar watering hole. Unsurprisingly, the heat map of the results found the most tweets in lower Manhattan and north Brooklyn. On the slightly sadder side, most New York City residents were tweeting about drinking from home. Stretch those legs, fellow drinkers!

More Than A Stained Rug: A traffic accident last week found a Budweiser truck and a Frito Lay truck spilling both payloads across a Florida highway, briefly creating a munchie paradise straight out of an informercial fail reel. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the accident, which makes it acceptable to chuckle over all those chips and all that beer decorating the pavement like your basement couch.
