Drake Tops Liquor Charts: Drake’s whiskey, Virginia Black, was the top seller in its first week in Canadian stores, moving almost 2,000 bottles in Ontario alone. American drinkers have been able to get their hands on the whiskey for several months, but this is the first time Drake’s hometown has been able to join in. Cheers to DeGrassi!
Look Upon These Works, Ye Mighty, and Despair: YouTube chef/surrealist The Vulgar Chef has successfully engineered a beer koozie made out of pizza. Real, edible, hot, pizza. We don’t know whether to worship him or take to sackcloths and ashes. In the Chef’s own words, “What a (unprintable here) time to be alive.”
Decoding Yeast: Get your geek on: scientists working on the genetic code of beer yeast have determined that it is much more complex than previously thought. Other yeasts, like those used in wine and bread, tend to retain their genetic identities, but beer yeast develops into new, diverse strains much quicker. One day, perhaps yeast will rule the Earth…for now, we’re glad it’s content to make beer instead.
Paging The D-O-Double G: Canna Vine have successfully created the first cannabis-infused wine, heralding a new age of convenience and hangovers for marijuana fans everywhere. Everywhere, that is, in the state of California with a medical marijuana license. It turns out that in addition to being about the price of a keg of beer for one bottle, the liquid is still illegal almost everywhere else. Still, hats off to the intrepid wine makers and good luck to the assured droves of furtive tourists heading to California right now.
Speaking of Snoop: Elder rap statesman Snoop Dogg resolved a trademark dispute with PBR this week over a shelved ad campaign, bringing closure to a rift that lasted years. While we’re glad that we’ll see Snoop in ads soon, we’d also like to let Snoop know that we’re open to hanging out. Call us.
You Thought We Forgot?: We also made the news this week by announcing that Kirin has invested in a minority stake in our operations. We’re stoked to have them on board, and can’t wait to start working with them. Check out the link for more from our President and distinctive laugher Robin Ottaway and get ready for more Brooklyn around the world.
