NYC Beer Week Is Here!: The most wonderful week of the year kicks off tonight and floods the city with beer-related events through March 4. You can come on a bar crawl with our sister brewery NCB, indulge in our Smoked & Cured seafood brunch with our Chef Andrew Gerson, NCB Chef Luke Hurst, and Williamsburg Hotel Chef Adam Leonti, hit our tap room for our Skål! Swedish Tap Invasion, and much, much more. Grab tickets with both hands and get out there.
Run The Taps: We’ve covered plenty of musical beer collaborations here, but Run The Jewels and Interboro’s Stay Gold IPA is a special beast. Interboro founder Jesse Ferguson was one of the first employees of the iconic Def Jux label, where he first met and became close to El-P. Ferguson has helmed the kettles from Carton Brewing to Other Half before starting his own outfit, providing a pedigree deemed “worthy of the RTJ art.” Catch Stay Gold while you can, and crank Run The Jewels often.
Presidential Pints: Hot on the heels of President’s Day, The Alcohol Professor compiled a list of some of the notable highs and cringe-worthy lows of the boozing in our highest office. Much like well liquor, some presidents are inspiring, while others make us ashamed to even call them by the office they hold. Still, we like to think there’s a commander-in-chief counterpart for us all.
Mardi Gras At Home: With the most celebrated display of hedonism coming up this week, it’s important to plan your Mardi Gras festivities. Unless you’re going to an established cultural center of the party, we recommend skipping the amateur scene and making your own Hurricanes at home. Heed Vinepair’s warning: this drink punches well above its innocuous appearance.
Cheers, Minnesota: After 160 years on the books, a Minnesota law banning liquor sales on Sundays was repealed this week in an 85-45 vote in the state’s house of representatives. The bill is expected to pass the Senate with no issues. Under the new guidelines, liquor stores would be allowed to open for 8 hours on Sundays, which is more than ample shopping time for most. Of course, this shift would have been more useful during football season, but at least there’s time to practice before baseball starts.
Listen In: Our Tasting Room’s own Hayes Peebles released an album this week with a good old-fashioned sweaty rock show at the Rockwood Music Hall. The man is gifted with a dulcet voice, fine guitar and top-notch band to bring it all together. Keep an eye on his Twitter for the full streaming release, and enjoy the weekend.
