adventure time heavy metal music

Beer Brutality Breaks Bounds: New Zealand brewers Garage Project recently unveiled Dark Resonance, their 666th batch of beer and literally the most metal beer of recent news. To encourage circle pit-worthy levels of yeast activity, the brewery rigged up a submerged speaker and blasted the fermenting beer with an eleven-day, no-repeats playlist of the greatest and growliest in metal history. Horns up and glasses raised to these cvlt brewers.

Pass the Buck: Beer and booze prices can vary greatly from place to place due to taxes, area demand, and in the case of NYC, a systemic desire to frighten the timid and/or broke. But how much of your pint is actually going to the state? Read ‘em and weep with this MarketWatch list. If it’s any comfort, at least you know that money is being spent responsibly…somewhere.

simpsons fire

Living Your Fiction: For everyone who has dreamed of drinking in famed spots seen on shows like The Simpsons, Cheers, and quite a few that your author hasn’t quite gotten to yet, Supercall has you covered. While some, like the original inspiration for Cheers, are sure to be tourist traps, places like The Sidebar Tavern (The Wire) or The Billy Goat Tavern (SNL) are likely prime spots for a pilgrimage. Just remember to keep the binging to the shows.

Shower Thoughts: It’s one of those classic trivial facts that always lingers on the tip of your tongue: why do we call liquor spirits? We’d tell you, but we honestly forgot already. Let’s go check the article again and make sure we don’t…nope, forgot again. Get the answer and right it down here.

waynes world we're not worthy

Know Your Somms: You might know a bit about somms. Maybe you’ve even been meaning to watch Somm on Netflix. But did you know the Court of Sommeliers is over 700 years old? Or that there’s only 236 certified Master Sommeliers in the world? Get your geek hat on– yes, the propeller one– and learn about your new heroes.

Geek Nostalgia: We leave you this week with a beer geek’s walk down memory lane as Aaron Goldfarb dissects 2005, the year IPAs truly rose to market supremacy. Longtime drinkers will no doubt think back and trace along their roots, remembering the wild-haired IPAs of their youth and chuckling ruefully at times once had. New drinkers, well, this is what we creaky folks are thinking about when you catch us not paying attention. Enjoy your weekend, and may your IPAs always stay fresh.
