With our new sister brewery E.C. Dahl’s’ opening coming up in just over a week, we’ve decided to get together some key facts for you to start planning your visit to the beautiful city of Trondheim. Consider it your Trondheim Primer. We almost called it the Trondheimer, but the wordplay was too cutesy and every time we thought about it we had to stop and lie down for a while.

There’s tons to do, see, eat and drink in Trondheim. It’s the third largest city in Norway, home to over 187,000 people and a few thousand US Marine Humvees hidden in caves. To give the real inside scoop, we reached out to E.C. Dahl’s Brand Ambassador Kristian Berger. Let us pass the mic to the man himself for a killer list of drinking and doing in Trondheim:

  • Visit E.C. Dahl’s, eat our food and drink our beers. Right, but what else?
  • See Motorpsycho live their hometown. The band started in Trondheim in 1989 and still tours today for scores of dedicated fans.
  • Visit the old neighborhood of Bakklandet. Get a fantastic coffee at Dromedar and watch the people stroll by.
  • Stop by Superhero Burger for a chili burger and a Brooklyn East IPA. Or go to Una for a Margeritha with chili and a Brooklyn Sorachi Ace, or Credo for a full seven-course meal.
  • Visit our friends Monkey Brew at Taps!
  • Have a beer in the sun and look at the beautiful people at Solsiden.
  • Have a cocktail at Moskus. Say hello to Magnus, and remember to ask for some old soul music.
  • Go for a run at the beautiful Ladestein, finishing with a bath in the sea at Korsvika.
  • Try to find someone who hasn’t heard of Garrett Oliver.
  • Go hiking at Geitfjellet, fifteen minutes outside of town. After 30-40 minutes walk through the forest, you will summit the small mountain Geitfjellet and have a view over all Trondheim. If you go in the middle of the week you might be alone– say hello to Pax.
  • Watch the local soccer team, Rosenborg, at the soccer bar Mellomveien. Watch the locals play “basse” during the breaks.
  • Visit the fantastic Nidarosdomen cathedral.
  • Visit Gaasa-parken with a Cuban cigar, a good friend, and some very discreet beers.
  • In autumn, pick chanterelles in the forests near the city.
  • Visit Svartlamon, the neighborhood around the brewery. First, go to a punk concert at Verkstedhallen. Then drink Dahls at Ramp. Then, go for a nachspiel, and drink some karsk.

There you have it from the man himself. Remember, E.C. Dahl’s opens August 4, and Kristian will be there with plenty of beers to boot. We’ll see you in Trondheim!
