Prosecco Panic

Recent reports indicated that a prosecco shortage was coming on fast, sending waves of panic through the brunch and bottle-popping crowds alike. No prosecco? What would we do without the sweet, bubbly wine so relied upon for mimosas? What bottles could we pop in celebration of warmer weather? What blasphemy did we incur to deserve the mockery of the Prosecco Gods?

Of course, since then it turned out to be something of a complete misunderstanding. There was no looming prosecco doom. We should celebrate, but in case of catastrophe let’s agree to never be caught in such dire straits again. Below, we’ve gathered some Brooklyn beers that also serve as wonderful brunch drinks and swagger-worthy celebration bottles. Find them in your neck of the woods on our Beer Finder page.

Summer tested, Brewmaster Garrett Oliver approved. Greenmarket Wheat is a lightly refreshing beer that is an excellent brunch companion. Match it up with an omelette, a fresh salad, or heartier fare like French toast and enjoy the dancing flavors and clean finish. Plus, it looks great in the glass, especially in the summer.

Sorachi Ace is a triple threat, available on draft, in 12oz bottles and 750ml “champagne-style” bottles for all your cork-popping needs. An aroma full of lemongrass, verbena, and dill make it a formidable presence at meal time for everything from brunch dishes to oysters to barbecues to the afterparty to the hotel lobby. And again, big swagger points for the cork popping.

1/2 Ale

1/2 Ale is a decidedly tasty session saison. Its 3.4% ABV makes it seem like a pushover, but the citrusy, mineral-forward hops and finely balanced malts pack all the flavor of a “big” beer. It’s a welcome addition to brunch after a particularly long night, or as a way to stay sharp when you know it’s going to be a long party. And just like the rest of this list, it makes for a very pretty glass on a table.

There you have it, brunchers and bottle poppers. Take comfort in the fact that prosecco isn’t going anywhere fast, but really enjoy the delicious beers that always have your back.
